July 2010 DIRECT FROM THE DIRECTOR Its Monday night and Im writing this part of the newsletter with a heavy heart for I have to announce the passing of Beth McAlister (Heather McAlisters sister) who was pronounced brain dead this afternoon and all life support was turned off. Beth has been a great friend to Solo and to many people in it and she will be sadly missed. About 10 days ago she was found unconscious at her place by the ambulance and was taken to St Vincents hospital where she never regained consciousness. She died of a brain aneurism that seemed to be improving over the week but started to bleed again yesterday (Sunday) and she was pronounced dead at 1.20pm today. Please be in prayer for Heather who has now lost both her mum and sister within a year and for Beths brother Fred and his family as they deal with the grief, loss & pain this has caused. Heather has asked that all emails etc be directed to me for now and I'll forward them onto her and she will respond when she is able. Thanks! The two consolations to the family are first that Beth was a Christian and she now enjoys the presence of God where there is no more pain or suffering for her and second, Beth donated her organs to save lives after she passed. Even in death Beth was still thinking of others. How true of her is that! Over the past couple of months we have had a number of Solo people touched by death in the family or friends. We think of those in Adelaide who have lost friends and family since the Adelaide camp in March. We remember John Hamlet who died early this year and Julie who passed away last year, John unexpectedly and Julie with dignity after a long fight with cancer. There is a verse in the Bible in Psalms 116: 15 which says that the death of one of His saints is precious in His sight, but that doesnt make it easier for the ones left behind. There might be those of us who are struggling with seeing someone in our family or friends going through some seriously difficult times with health or death. My question to you is this Are you ready if God calls you home? Are you ready to face your Maker and give an account of what you have done with His Son Jesus Christ whilst on this earth? We wont be judged on whether we have been good or bad, we will be judged by what we did with Jesus. Did we curse Him all our lives, did we ignore Him all our lives, did we use Him as a bandaid to cover over us for awhile and then abandoned Him when we didnt need Him or it got too hard, or did we make Him the Saviour of our lives and followed Him as best we could until the day we died or Jesus returned? I pray that the latter is where I find you today because if it is any of the former then you are in serious trouble. I urge you by the mercies of God that you get yourself right with God through either accepting Jesus as your Lord and Saviour or come back to Him urgently if you have wandered away. Gods arms are always open and His Love is unconditional towards you and there is nothing that can separate you from the Love of God if you choose to turn around and follow Him. Id be more than happy to talk to you about any of this but if not me then some mature Christian who you can trust. Bye for now and God bless you all.
